Pulled this one out of the archives. This is the first volley in what will be a clearance of projects which I held onto in hopes of more favorable release conditions but nothing is perfect so, as they say....whatever

First coming together around '08, I'm not sure how the word "matamoros" entered my awareness at this time but it seemed to have lodged itself in my head for some reason. Of course, the literal translation is "moorkiller" and it is very obvious what the connotation is in relation to our present moment. The so-called "War On Terror" waged on the Muslim world and the Middle East generally punctuated by the protracted conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and unironically today with the ongoing genocide in Gaza clearly shows that this is the case. The atmosphere here though is of end-0times folly and frolic. A mechanized monster knowingly, gleefully stomps across the landscape leaving nothing behind but noise and blood. Do we dance or die? A Reggaeton/Dembow Riddim underpins the first track exploding in high gloss indiscriminate crunch before descending back to a start point as if we arrive at the height of its powers before its wind down...plodding rhythms, lumbering fauna and high energy bursts simultaneously excite and frighten before the lights go out or an insurgent puts an end to the machine's forward march for all our sakes.
